Summary The best Hungarian professional workshops in public health, immunology, dietetics and cardiology have joined their forces in the present project aiming the development of research on the improvement of the alarming health status which is not accountable by the economic situation and on the improvement of the quality of life (see the attached organogram). It is necessary to elaborate the complex prevention strategy of the chronic, non-contagious diseases which occur with an unsubstantiated frequency. Owing to worsening health indices the population declines, the early mortality increases, which is manifested in a shorter life-span than that of those living in the European Union. Cumulating health hazards of the Hungarian population are represented by the adverse life style habits, excessive drinking, smoking and recently drug abuse, as well as, environmental pollution caused by chemisation, wasteful energy consumption and increasing emission due to traffic. In addition, side-effects of societal-economic transformation such as unemployment, poverty and homelessness are also responsible for the declining trends. These negative "results" also necessitate the development of a well established health preservation, health promotion strategy, starting with protection of the unborn, continuing with the prevention of diseases and restraining early ageing (being worn-out), and ends with rehabilitation of the patients. Namely, in our project special attention is paid to all aspects of life, including the protection, promotion of health, treatment of diseases and improvement of the quality of life of pre- peri- and early postnatal beings, children, youth, working and non-working adults - among them of those under especially unfavourable conditions, such as the agricultural workers of small farms, the unemployed and sick people. Though a significant data base is at our disposal in the Hungarian and international scientific literature which enables us to identify the responsible pathogenic factors, including the life-style and social-societal factors - still the development of the health preservation, health promotion strategy of prevention requires certain basic and applied research. It has to be mentioned in advance, however, that the available time of 3 years will not allow the comprehensive solution of all questions raised, and because of this, some parts of the research plan are in a loose connection with each other, owing to the underlying of priority areas. |
