Therapy Oriented Biotechnological Research

Therapy Oriented Biotechnological Research

The aim of biotechnological research is in progress at our Department is the production and examination of molecules which might influence pathological processes, free radical reactions and are appropriate for the prevention and therapy of the diseases caused by these processes.

Main research areas performed within the scope of national and international co-operation are following:

- administration of genetic transformation to obtain genetically stabile, high secondary metabolite producing plant cell and tissue cultures,

- biological and chemical screening of plant cell and tissue cultures. investigation of programmed cell death, phytochemical analysis, isolation, structure-action studies,

- production of metabolites by plant cells and tissues (e.g. piranocoumarine derivatives) which might inhibit tumor cells and viruses (e.g. HIV) in the development of resistance against chemotherapy).
