Researchers' Proposals

1) Hydrogeochemical research in the Carpathian Basin

2) Palaeohydrology, palaeoclimatology research by stable isotopes

3) Studying climate change by isotopes

Tracing the water cycle by environmental isotopes (hydrogen, oxygen, carbon) from the clouds down to deep waters. Reconstruction of flow dynamics (flow paths, transit times, mixing) in riparian (bank filtered) water resources (mostly along the Danube). Determination the origin and mixing ratio of ground/karstic/thermal waters by chemical and isotopic characters. Determining the empirical relation between the annual mean temperature and the oxygen isotopic composition of precipitation in Hungary for palaeoclimate reconstruction.

Studying the relation between climate and stable isotopic composition of water of the rivers Danube and Tisza, and how the isotopic composition of river water is reflected in the shells of mollusks (modern, fossil).
