Researchers' Proposals

The anticancer chemotherapeutics are frequently insufficient due to the developmnet of multidrug resistance of the cancer cells. Our main goal is to reverse the multidrug resistance by inhibiting the activity of an ABC transporter p-glycoprotein responsible for drug efflux.

The activity of efflux pump is inhibited by some hetrocyclic compounds such as: acridines, naphthyridones, plant flavonoids, triterpenoids and alkaloids. The effective resistance reversal compounds can be combined with the traditional anticancer chemotherapeutics to enhance cytostatic effects on multidrug resistant tumor cells.
